Edward Preston Spokeshave 1391
The Edward Preston spokeshave 1391 was a malleable iron spoke shave fitted with
a best cast steel cutting iron, and direct screw and lateral wing adjustments. By
means of a simple wing adjuster the cutting iron is adjusted sideways so as to set
the cutting edge square with the face of the shave.
The distinctive handles were enlarged and hollow to allow the user to form a good
grip.
This spokeshave was 10 inches in length with a 2 inch cutting iron and could be
purchased with flat face or a round face. The 1391 spokeshave was originally
available to buy either with a Japanned finish or a Nickel Plated finish. The
Nickel Plated finish was the more expensive finish.
